A proper local pub feel, with plenty of room to park right outside and a garden that's genuinely usable — there's a covered side section families get moved into when the weather turns, and the outdoor tables are clean and rarely all taken. Inside gets busy and loud from Thursday through the weekend, so book if you want a table with a pram beside it. Food arrives fast and hot, which matters with a hungry three-year-old: the mixed grill and Sunday roast are what people come back for, and the desserts are enormous. Mains can be hit and miss beyond the grill, and the gluten-free carvery isn't the strong point. Vegetarians and vegans do well here, there's a decent 0% drinks range, and staff are patient and quick to sort out seating. Kids' menu, high chairs, weekday lunch deals around 2 for £18.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
