Miss Ellie's Cafe
Warm riverside neighbourhood café with fresh-cooked breakfasts, gentle prices and patient staff — small and busy, and cash only, so book ahead.

Bistro · Southampton
A bistro right in the Triangle, this one has been given a smart refurbishment — refined but casual decor, comfy seating and a lovely view, with a relaxed vibe that suits a table full of children as much as a couple on a date night. Staff are consistently warm and accommodating, which counts for a lot when you arrive with a buggy and a hungry toddler. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, outdoor seating and free parking, and the Sunday roast at around £14 an adult (with kids' portions) is the thing people come back for — though you'll usually want to book. Breakfasts are cooked properly, not greasy, and the smashed burger and fresh-made desserts get real praise. The one snag: food can take a while, with waits of 25 minutes quoted even when it's quiet.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
