Sitting outside by the water is the draw here — the sound of the river does a lot of the work while you wait, and there's room to park a pram beside the tables. Ordering is by QR code or a self-service kiosk, which is either brilliant or fiddly depending on your phone; drinks arrive fast, food takes longer, so order the little ones' food first. Portions are properly generous — the pork loin with creamed potatoes and the chicken salad both get raved about, and the chocolate ice cream sundaes are enormous. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and vegan options, and free parking, which in Boscastle matters. Staff stay cheerful even on packed summer days. Worth knowing: it's a road-facing spot, so it's not a quiet corner of Cornwall in August.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
