Sitting out by the water with a drink is the whole point here — the riverside view is genuinely lovely, and the outdoor seating gives children somewhere to fidget without upsetting a room. It's a 1650 coaching inn, quirky outside and traditional pub inside, with high chairs, a kids' menu, vegan options and free parking, though the spaces outside are few, so arrive early on a sunny day. Food is the wobble: the scampi and chips comes crisp and generous, and the higher-end plates like chicken with dauphinoise are done properly, but plenty of families have had lukewarm casseroles and slow check-backs. Staff and the owners are warm and welcoming, and food usually arrives quickly. One visitor found it "freezing" inside in winter — worth a jumper if you're not sitting out.
