Half an hour before the kitchen's advertised closing time on a Saturday, one family arrived to find food off entirely — no coffee either — so time your visit rather than gambling on a late arrival. Get it right, though, and there's a lot here for children: a proper play area at the back, a big garden ringed with green and lit with fairy lights, and plenty of room for a pram. Food arrives promptly, the kids' chicken schnitzel is nicely done, and the fish pie, steak sandwich and shared knickerbocker glory get high praise, as does the vegetarian roast. Lunch prices raise eyebrows — £12 for a Mediterranean veg toast with nothing alongside — and piped music plus kitchen clatter can dent the cosy pub feel.
