Sunday roast is the thing to come for here — beef so tender plates come back empty, and portions generous enough that families regularly skip pudding. The kitchen punches well above a village pub: scallops, an n'duja scotch egg, herb-crusted rack of lamb and homemade French bread all get raved about, at prices that stay reasonable. What matters most with small children is the welcome — one family arrived with an 11-month-old and the staff put together a tiny roast and a dessert for them, unprompted. Board games sit out for older ones, there are high chairs and a kids' menu, plus outdoor seating and free parking. Dogs are welcome too. It's off the beaten track, so worth booking, and service can occasionally be brisk rather than warm — but the food rarely disappoints.
