Handy if you're arriving by train — it's just across the road from the station, with free parking too if you drive. Inside there's room enough to get a buggy through, high chairs, a kids' menu and outdoor seating for when everyone needs air. Portions are big and the value is genuinely good: the braised beef with garlic mash and Guinness gravy, the fried chicken with chargrilled corn and slaw, and a Sunday roast that leaves you comfortably beaten. Save room for sticky toffee pudding. Staff are warm and unhurried with children, and one parent found nothing was any trouble. Two things worth knowing: weekends get busy, so book ahead, and the advertised special menus aren't always running — check before you travel for a particular deal.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
