Anniversary lunches and post-walk collapses both land well here, and the kitchen is the reason. The menu is short but done properly — beetroot and feta soup, pork scratchings with apple purée, haddock fish and chips that arrives skinless and boneless with a choice of chunky homemade chips or fries, black garlic chicken wings, truffle fries that people talk about afterwards. Portions run generous enough that plates go back half-finished. Free parking, high chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access and outdoor seating cover the practical side, and vegan options are there too. Food usually comes out quickly. Service is the wobble: mostly warm and attentive, but on busy days drinks have gone missing and larger tables get the attention first. It's £££, it fills up, and one parent found the staff squeezed them in "even though the place was completely full" — worth booking.
