Sitting just off the main road in Broughton, this is one of those places whose traditional frontage hides a bright, modern dining room — spacious inside, with pockets of seating in different corners, so there's usually somewhere to tuck a pram and let a toddler wriggle without an audience. Buggy access and free parking take the stress out of arriving; high chairs and a kids' menu are there, and the outdoor tables are lovely for finishing drinks while children stretch their legs. Portions are generous and the cooking is a step up from standard pub food — people rave about the pies, the sticky toffee pudding and unusual touches like beetroot risotto. Worth knowing: it's often only a couple of staff front of house, so at busy times you may end up ordering at the bar. Quieter early evening.
