A riverside pub just outside Oxford with a thatched front bar, low beams and a big lawn under old willow trees — it's the outdoor space that makes it work with children. Buggies get across the garden easily, there's free parking (tight at busy times, though there's an overflow car park), high chairs and a kids' menu, and in warm weather an outdoor bar does burgers so nobody waits long. The path down to the river is a good leg-stretch between courses. The daily fish, the fish and chips and the burgers all draw praise, and the gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan dishes are proper filling plates rather than an afterthought. Staff are warm with families and dogs are welcome too. It is on the pricey side, and at peak times food can be slow to arrive.
