Prices feel like a decade ago: four people ate with hot drinks for £28, and a cup of tea is £1. There are high chairs and a kids' menu, free parking outside, and the staff are warm with children rather than merely tolerant. Tables are kept clean, other customers chat happily to your lot, and food comes out fresh and fast. The mince and dumplings and homemade fries get particular praise. One thing to plan for: it's cash only, so stop at a machine first. One family calls it "such a little gem".
