Restaurant · Okehampton
A former monastery on the edge of Dartmoor, this is the kind of place children remember — suits of armour, ancient beams, and a genuine standing stone built into the snug that will hold small people's attention while you order. The garden is the real prize on a decent day: panoramic moor views, a stone circle at the top, plus a cat and sheep to visit, and plenty of space for a pram and restless legs. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, and buggy access, and the staff are warm, quick, and happy to work around dietary needs — gluten-free was handled without fuss. Food punches well above pub level: fish pie, cheese soufflé, succulent venison, properly cooked veg. Book ahead, and park in the village car park round the corner, which is easy to miss.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
