Worth the detour if you're driving through North Yorkshire — parking is easy and the dining hall is big enough that tables sit well apart, so you're not squeezing a pram between strangers' chairs. Breakfast is the thing here: the Plantsman's full English draws real praise, and the American pancakes come fluffy with fruit compote and granola. Portions are generous for the price, and staff will happily push tables together for a big group. There's a baby change in the gents as well as elsewhere, which one dad was delighted by, and benches outside for sunny days. Two small warnings: it's table service, though nothing says so when you walk in, and tables near the door get draughty in winter — ask to sit further in. Kids' menu and high chairs available.
