Behind Primark, this is a proper old scouse corner pub — the kind that's barely changed in decades and where regulars have been drinking with the same friends since they were lads. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and buggy access, though be honest with yourself about timing: it gets rammed of an evening and at weekends, and when it's packed you won't always find a seat. Come early afternoon and it's a different place — comfortable seating, Victorian fittings, vintage lighting, a jukebox in the corner and football on. Prices are genuinely low (Guinness around £4.50) and service stays quick even when the bar is three deep. The staff are friendly with everyone. Toilets are clean but the place is worn round the edges rather than shiny.
