Cafés · Bedale
A Bedale town-centre spot that's built a real reputation for gluten-free cooking — the owner is coeliac, and the staff know the difference between an intolerance and a diagnosis, which is a relief if you've got a child who can't risk it. The GF cheese and toasted scones come highly praised, and the broccoli and lemon soup, Yorkshire rarebit, chunky ham sandwiches and pancakes all get warm words; one grandparent called the milkshake the tastiest they'd ever tried. Everything's clearly made on site. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and outdoor seating, and the welcome is genuinely friendly — eye contact, a smile, nothing too much trouble. Two hours' free parking nearby, but borrow a council disc from the counter or you'll be fined. It's popular and busy, portions are generous but prices aren't cheap, and it's worth booking ahead.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
