About The Nelson

A proper local pub on the edge of Nottingham that families seem to spread out into rather than squeeze into — on sunny days the garden fills with parents and children while the inside stays calm, so there's usually somewhere to park a pram and let a toddler be a toddler. The staff are warm and quick, which matters when someone's hungry, and there are high chairs and a kids' menu. Portions are generous: the fish fingers are homemade and full of proper flaky fish, the fish finger sandwich is enormous for £7.50, and everyone raves about the chips — thin and crisp, not the usual doorstops. Crispy cauliflower and sticky toffee pudding get their share of love too. Two honest notes: the menu isn't huge, the ribs come with no sides unless you ask, and the toilets can be hit and miss. Parking is free, but worth checking.
