Harbourside Fish and Chips
Barbican chippy with upstairs seating, kids' menu and high chairs — fast, piping-hot food, proper chips and generous portions.

Pub · Plymouth
Right on the water in the Barbican, this is a proper old pub that happens to be very good with children — there's a kids' menu that costs next to nothing, high chairs, buggy access and outdoor seating, plus a quieter restaurant area upstairs when the bar gets busy. The staff are the making of it: one family had a daughter melting down over her chair and the landlady came over and talked her round. The fish gets rave notices, and the Sunday roast is huge and about £14 a head, with a 2-for-£15 lunch menu midweek. Worth knowing the downstairs bar is a sport-on-the-telly, pool-table sort of place, packed and loud at popular times, so aim for early or head up a level with little ones.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
