Beams, books and an unassuming exterior hide something genuinely lovely inside — immaculate, warmly furnished, and roomy enough that a pram isn't a problem. High chairs and a kids' menu are sorted, there's free parking and outdoor seating for summer, and the team are friendly and quick, which matters when someone at the table is running out of patience. The Sunday roast is the draw: homemade Yorkshire puddings, locally sourced meat and vegetables in real quantity, with fish and chips or mac and cheese if a roast won't wash with the children. Korean chicken wings and prawn toast get raved about too, and the scones come warm with clotted cream. Portions are big enough to share with a small child. It fills up at weekends, so ring ahead.
