Right in the middle of Grassmarket, so it's easy to find and easy to get to on foot, though booking ahead is genuinely worth it — tables go, and this is not a place you want to be standing in the doorway with a pram. Once you're in, buggy access and high chairs are sorted, and there's outdoor seating if you'd rather be where the noise doesn't matter. The kitchen sends out smaller portions of mussels and other seafood for children, which is a rarer thing than it should be. Scallops, shellfish linguine and the beef dripping chips are what people come back for, portions are big, and the sticky toffee pudding is worth saving room for. Staff check in often and take their time with you. At ££ it's a treat rather than a Tuesday.
