The Fox & Hen

Set in the grounds of the Dallas Burston Polo Club, this is a country pub with proper room to spread out — several different seating areas inside and a terrace for warmer days, so a pram isn't a problem and free parking means no circling. High chairs and a kids' menu are there, and the staff are consistently warm and attentive, which matters when you arrive with a hungry toddler. Portions are generous: Sunday roasts with plenty of meat and veg, pork belly with crackling, a steak pie packed with tender meat and good chips, fish and chips in crisp batter. The ice cream and apple crumble are worth saving room for. It's dog friendly too. Do book ahead — regulars warn it fills up, especially when there's an event on, and quieter corner tables aren't something you can request.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
