Restaurant · Cheltenham
Down a few steps from the street, this Cheltenham place manages the rare trick of feeling grown-up and genuinely relaxed about children at the same time. The bar area is cosy and the staff are chatty with little ones — one family with a newborn found the whole afternoon easy going, though they did note the pram was awkward to get down the stairs at the entrance, so bring a second pair of hands. High chairs, a kids' menu and free parking take the sting out. Food is the draw: burgers with bacon jam that people talk about for months afterwards, salty fries, sausage and mash, and a Sunday roast with plenty of gravy plus a nut roast for vegetarians. Plenty of dishes under £10, and there's a courtyard for warm days. Worth booking, especially Sundays.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.

Handsome old pub with a lovely garden, high chairs and free parking — great with big family groups, though pricey and light on vegan choices.
