Cafés · Derby
Tucked beside the canal in Derby, this is the sort of tearoom where you can park easily, wheel a pram straight in, and settle four generations around one table without anyone tutting. Inside is small — a handful of tables — but the outdoor seating is generous and much of it is sheltered, so a noisy toddler has somewhere to be. The staff are warm and unfussed by requests, swapping in coconut milk or working around a fussy eater without a sigh. Jacket potatoes, homemade soup, big cooked breakfasts and beefburgers all land well priced, and the homemade cakes are what people come back for. Vegetarian options too. It's always busy, ordering happens at the till rather than at the table, and the odd breakfast has arrived underdone — but on a sunny morning by the water, few places beat it.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
