Sunday lunch is the thing to plan around here — the roasts get talked about with real affection, all properly cooked meat, good roasties and veg, a huge Yorkshire and plenty of gravy, and the gluten-free version stretches to a Yorkshire and cauliflower cheese, which almost nowhere manages. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and buggy access, plus free parking, so the logistics are easy. Ask for a front table when you book — the back room is darker and less pleasant with children, while the front catches the evening sun. Staff are attentive and quick to sort problems, and there's outdoor seating for when someone needs air. Small plates and the sticky toffee pudding are worth ordering. It's not cheap and it fills up at weekends, so booking matters, and the interior can run cold in winter.
