Busy at lunchtime is usually a good sign, and this one fills up with regulars who get greeted by name — though a wait of five minutes or so is about the worst of it, and food comes out quickly, which matters when someone small has hit their limit. It's a cosy space rather than a cavernous one, so it's worth timing a pram visit outside the midday rush, but there's buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu when you get there. The gluten-free and vegan choices are unusually good for a small town café — the falafel salad with pitta and hummus gets particular praise, as do the homemade cakes and the lasagne. Afternoon tea is a lovely thing to book for a birthday, and the team will work around allergies. Prices are fair, and the toilets are, genuinely, hotel-standard.
