A picturesque inn set in gardens just outside Langport, with a large flat car park (free, and being extended) and enough space inside that a pram isn't a problem. The menu wanders happily between pub standards, Indian and South African — ham, egg and chips, burgers, beef bobotie — and the chips get the loudest praise, crispy outside and fluffy within. Roasts are the draw on Sundays, with cauliflower cheese people talk about for weeks, and the BBQ ribs arrive genuinely enormous. Portions are generous throughout, so children can share. Food comes out hot and fast even when it's heaving, and the team stay smiling and attentive through it. There's a big wood burner inside and stunning views from the outdoor tables. It gets busy — booking is wise — and it's a fair trek from anywhere.
