A proper Cotswolds village pub where the cooking is the main event — venison pie that people come back the next night for, 12-hour lamb, a burger that actually holds together, and a pork belly starter and crème brûlée that stick in the memory. Portions are generous. The courtyard is lovely on a warm evening and gives you somewhere to let children wriggle, with free parking, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu all sorted. Staff are attentive without hovering, and even on a packed Friday night people are seated promptly and food comes quickly — helpful when patience is thin. It does get busy, so book. There are rooms and a two-bedroom barn down the road if you want to stay; one father thought it "a perfect fit for a trip with a toddler".
