Ghillie Dhu
A grand vaulted Edinburgh bar with Scottish food, live music, ceilidhs and outdoor seating — lively and family-welcoming.

Restaurant · Edinburgh
Right off Princes Street, this is a handy escape from the crowds — big front windows, comfy seating and enough space to park a buggy without apologising to anyone. Breakfast is the real draw: the hash gets rave mentions, as do the smashed avo with salmon, the French toast and the haggis and black pudding croissant, and guests staying above have happily eaten here three mornings running without repeating a dish. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, outdoor seating and a good vegan spread, and the team stayed welcoming even on a heaving Saturday. Two honest snags: food can be slow to arrive, even when it looks quiet, and everything fried shares one fryer — worth flagging if you're managing an allergy. Booking is wise at weekends.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
