Tucked into a working farm just up the road from Bodiam Castle and the steam railway, this is an easy one with children — level access for a buggy, high chairs, free parking, and plenty of outdoor benches for sunny days when nobody wants to sit still indoors. Breakfast runs all day, which is a small mercy on a bad morning, and the meat on the full English gets particular praise. Banana waffles with clotted cream and salted caramel are the thing to order with children; the nachos come with a pea-based guacamole. Portions are generally generous, though a couple of parents have found the vegetarian breakfast light for the price, and the £7.50 children's lunchbox draws grumbles. Staff are unfailingly patient, the loos are clean, and there's a farm shop to browse afterwards. Dogs welcome too.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
