Restaurants · Peebles
Set in the hills about ten minutes from Peebles and half an hour from Edinburgh, this is a family-run place where the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing — roast beef cooked properly, steak pie and chicken, ham and leek pie with generous helpings of fresh vegetables, and sticky toffee pudding worth staying for. There's a plant-based menu that's been genuinely thought through (the vegan wellington gets particular praise), plus gluten-free dishes done well. Free parking, high chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access and outdoor seating cover the practicalities, and the loos are spotless. Staff are unflappable — one group of twelve walked in without booking and were seated without fuss. Worth knowing: it's a softly-spoken, relaxed room rather than a boisterous one, so a very noisy toddler may draw glances, and prices sit at the higher end.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
