Sitting right on the banks of the Severn under Holt Bridge, this is one of those places where the setting does half the work — plenty of outdoor seating by the water, a big free car park so you're not circling with a car seat in hand, and step-free access if you've got a pram. Inside it's smart and modern but genuinely relaxed, and the staff stay attentive even when it's heaving. Portions are generous and the kitchen does clever twists on familiar things — a coronation chicken with Bombay potatoes came in for particular praise, and the afternoon tea (including a good veggie version) is a proper occasion. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and vegan options. It's a popular spot for weddings and events, so weekends get busy — one family called the food and drink "excellent", but book ahead.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
