About The Hole in The Wall

Tucked down a Brighton backstreet, this is a tiny freehouse that beer people travel for — cask, keg and three real ciders, plus IPAs, stouts and sours, with staff who can talk you through every one. There are board games, big green house plants and a back room popular with dog owners, and you can order thirds, halves or schooners rather than committing to a pint. Be honest about the fit, though: it's genuinely small with limited seating, the toilets are tiny and dated, and the kitchen doesn't open every day, so lunch can amount to crisps and peanuts. One family was turned away for bringing a pram in and told it was over-18s. Worth a call before you build an afternoon around it — a hidden gem, but not an obvious one with children in tow.
