About The Head of Steam Quayside

Tucked just off the quayside, this is a roomy craft-beer pub that turns out to be far easier with children than you'd expect — booths, sofas and proper tables mean there's usually somewhere to park a pram, and buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted. The food arrives quickly, which matters when someone's unravelling: burgers, gyros, and dirty fries with your choice of topping get the most praise, and the chicken shawarma is worth ordering. Lunchtime brings a decent discount, and there's outdoor seating with a view across to the Millennium Bridge on a good day. Staff are friendly and happy to talk you through the menu, including gluten questions — though it isn't a gluten-free kitchen. Drinks can sting (one visitor paid £7.10 for a bottle of beer), tables are sometimes sticky, and Saturdays get busy.
