A deceptively large, semi-rural pub where the dining room is the part that works for families — spacious, warm and relaxed, with a lovely garden for when children need to move. The bar area is tight for manoeuvring a pram, and the bathrooms run cold, so factor that into a nappy change. Staff are patient with children even when there are 20-odd of you, and there's a kids' menu, high chairs and free parking. Food is properly good: generous roasts, lamb rump that people rave about, calamari and satay chicken starters, warm chocolate brownie. There's a full gluten-free menu and vegan options, and no service charge on the bill. It isn't cheap for a big table, and afternoon tea gets mixed marks, but Sundays here have a real following.
