Tucked into the hills above Blaenau Ffestiniog, this is the sort of stop that rescues a long drive through Snowdonia. There's a dedicated play area outside, so children can burn off energy while the adults finish a plate in relative peace, plus outdoor seating that comes into its own on a warm afternoon, high chairs, buggy access and free parking. The kitchen turns food out remarkably fast even when it's heaving — one visitor watched a party of seven served almost as quickly as their own table. Portions are generous and locally sourced: the burger, the lamb shank, the curry and, by common agreement, properly good chips. It does get busy and buzzy at peak times, so booking is wise, and the bar area feels plainer than the restaurant if you're marking an occasion. Dogs are welcome too, water bowl included.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
