Tucked into a thatched building outside Muddleswood, this is the kind of gastropub where the food genuinely justifies the trip — Sunday roasts people call exemplary, a salted cod scotch egg worth ordering twice, lamb pie, tempura cauliflower, rhubarb and custard tart. The garden is the reason it works with children: alfresco tables plus a climbing frame and slide, so free-range little ones can burn off energy between courses. Plenty of free parking, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu. Staff are friendly without hovering, and they've been known to go well out of their way to find you a table. Two honest caveats: it's not cheap and a few portions land small for the money, and service can slow down on busy bank holidays. Book ahead, especially for sunny Sundays outside.
