Tucked down a side road just outside Basingstoke, close enough to the M3 to break a long drive, this is a proper family-run pub with a huge free car park and a garden that's lovely in the sun. Sunday roasts are the draw — beef, lamb and pork all come in for praise, along with homemade Yorkshire puddings and generous stuffing, and there's a curry night worth planning around. The menu is small but everything is cooked with care, and the burger keeps younger diners happy alongside the kids' menu. High chairs, buggy access and outdoor seating are all sorted, and the front-of-house team are attentive without hovering. It's not cheap and it's a cosy space rather than a cavernous one, but families consistently say it's worth every penny.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
