Tucked beside the park in Fair Oak, this volunteer-run community café is the sort of place you end up at every week once you've found it. Parents come in after the playground for coffee and cake, and there's a proper stash of toys, books and games for children who'll sit still, plus plenty of high chairs and clean changing facilities. Sit out the back and you can keep half an eye on older ones still playing outside. The cakes are handmade individually, with a good spread of gluten-free and some vegan options, and the tuna melt gets particular praise. Prices are far below the chains and everywhere is spotless; you order and pay at the counter, then it's brought to your table. It can get busy and a bit slow at peak times, and opening days are limited — worth checking before you set off.
