Up on the hill above the village, this is a proper country pub that happens to be very easy with children — a kids' menu, high chairs, and outdoor seating that comes into its own on the summer pizza nights, when there are games laid on for the kids and the pizza is genuinely excellent. The cooking is the draw: charcuterie boards that people order again and again, Sunday roasts after a long walk, duck and venison done over an open fire, and a bakery counter worth a second trip the next morning. Portions are generous, the staff are warm and quick with a joke, and the snug is the calm corner if you've got a tired toddler. Two honest notes: it's busy enough that booking matters, and parking is unsignposted on-street with only a few spaces by the entrance.
