Tucked into Ancoats a dozen minutes' walk from Piccadilly, this handsomely restored corner pub has a long marble bar downstairs and a proper restaurant upstairs, which is where families tend to land — buggy access is fine, there are high chairs and a kids' menu, and outdoor tables help on warm days. The cooking is the draw: seasonal, locally sourced, and genuinely good, with the crispy pork belly, Guinness pie, charred aubergine and tomato salad all winning fans. The staff are attentive without hovering. Two honest notes: the downstairs bar fills up and gets loud on match days at the nearby Etihad, and wine comes only in small glasses that aren't cheap. Midweek evenings can be blissfully quiet — one visitor found it almost too calm. Worth booking if you want the upstairs at a weekend.
