Tucked in Lakeland walking country, this is the sort of pub that works whether you've just come off a muddy hike or you're settling in for a proper Sunday lunch. Free parking on site (small car park, it's on the road so hold hands on the way in), buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu, plus a small beer garden with views for when everyone needs air. Staff are attentive without hovering and clearly used to families — one group was found space outside under a heater when the inside was fully booked. The steak pie gets the loudest praise; stone-baked pizzas, burgers and fish and chips all go down well, and there are vegan options. A few board games help fill the wait. Worth knowing: mains sit around £18 and children's around £10, and there's a friendly pub dog who roams — lovely if your children like dogs, less so if not.
