Drinks are genuinely cheap and the staff get consistent praise for being welcoming and attentive, including with big groups. Daytimes and early evenings are quiet enough for a relaxed stop with children; once a band is on it gets loud and busy, so that's an adults' visit. The beer range runs to specialist ales rather than anything extensive. One regular calls it "by far my all time favourite pub".
