The Star Inn
Michelin-starred village pub near Helmsley with a kids' menu, high chairs and free parking — a special-occasion lunch rather than an everyday one.

Restaurants · York
Set inside a spa complex just outside York, this is a calm, softly-lit space built around a striking central tree, with music pitched low enough that you can still hear each other across the table. Buggies get in easily, there are high chairs and a kids' menu, outdoor seating for warmer days, and parking is free — which takes the sting out of an afternoon here. The evening and breakfast food draws the warmest praise: tasty, generous portions brought out quickly by friendly staff. Lunch is more of a mixed bag — burgers, wraps and salads that some find pricey for what they are, so manage expectations if you're stopping mid-day. Service can slow when the spa is busy, so book ahead and don't come starving. One family simply wished they lived nearer.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
