Café Kiltane
A relaxed Edinburgh café with outdoor seating, easy for a family coffee stop with little ones in tow.

Gastropub · Edinburgh

Tucked down Advocate's Close in the Old Town, this is a whisky bar and restaurant with real atmosphere — reclaimed wood, wrought iron, warm amber lamplight and old writs framed on the walls. It's a grown-up sort of place that still makes room for children: a kids' menu, high chairs, vegan options and outdoor seating. Book well ahead, and mean it — one family tried on their first week in Edinburgh and only got a table three weeks later; without a reservation you could be waiting an hour at the bar. Staff are consistently warm and quick, and happy to seat you early if a table frees up. Steaks arrive cooked properly, the falafel starter and fresh bread go down well with children, and the chocolate cake with sour cherry sauce is worth the detour. Prices are on the higher side.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
