Weekday lunchtimes here can be busier than you'd expect for a village pub, so it's worth arriving early or booking if you want a proper table rather than the last one squeezed by the bar. Portions are the headline — the fish and chips gets called the biggest people had anywhere, and the pheasant roast comes out enormous. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access through and a free car park, plus outdoor seating for when small people need to burn off energy. Gluten-free and vegan needs are handled properly, with a dark chocolate mousse for pudding rather than an afterthought. One genuine snag: the kitchen shuts around 3pm and doesn't reopen until 5 or 5.30, so a mid-afternoon snack stop won't work. Staff are friendly and unhurried, and it's dog friendly too.
