Tucked away in Highfield, off the main road, this is the sort of old-fashioned local that's getting harder to find — plenty of character, a dartboard in the corner, and a room that feels cosy but is actually fairly big, so there's space to park a pram without blocking anyone. Roasts are what people come back for, alongside a well-liked chilli and a very filling lasagne; portions are generous and prices genuinely low, with a kids' menu, high chairs and a decent outdoor space for when little ones need to move. Free parking helps. Staff are patient and check in without hovering, though food can take a while at busy times, so don't arrive on a tight schedule. One parent describes the atmosphere as "calm but not boring" — which is about right. Dogs welcome too.
