A canalside pub in Hawk Green that draws families in for Sunday lunch, with free parking, buggy access and a big outdoor area with roomy tables when everyone needs to spill outside. The topside roast is the thing to order — tender, properly sliced, a generous plate with good veg and gravy — and the swede mash gets singled out again and again. Dogs are welcome, high chairs are there, and the young staff get warm words for being attentive without hovering. Two honest notes: it's busy enough that booking is sensible, and when there's a wedding or a full Sunday on, food can be slow to reach the table. Portions on the à la carte are on the modest side too. One family, back after twenty years away, called it "more of a regular haunt for us now".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
