Tucked into the road toward the Fairy Pools, this is a small family-run place where the owner tends to greet everyone at the door and find them a seat — handy when you arrive with a pram and a hungry toddler in tow. It's cosy rather than roomy, with highland cow decor, Scottish music playing and high chairs available, plus outdoor seating and free parking if you'd rather let the children stretch their legs. The soup gets extraordinary praise (the Cullen Skink especially), and people rave about the burgers, the ham toastie, the lemon cake and Victoria sponge, and a hot chocolate worth ordering. Staff are patient and chatty, happily topping up tea for free. There's a kids' menu and vegan options. Being small, it fills up — and the real draw for children is the highland coos outside.
