Tucked out at Catterline just up the coast from Stonehaven, this is worth the short drive with children in tow — free parking outside, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu, plus outdoor seating for when little ones need air. The kitchen has gone in an Indian direction and it's the reason people keep coming back: monkfish curry that families rave about, tandoori king prawn biriyani, onion bhajis and mushroom pakora to share, and a sticky toffee pudding worth ordering. Portions are generous and prices fair for ££. The atmosphere is relaxed rather than rowdy, and the staff are unfailingly patient — forgotten rice, dietary needs, none of it a problem. Food can take a little while at busy times, so bring something to keep small hands occupied, and it's worth booking ahead. Takeaway is an option too.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
