Tucked away with no front door on Fenwick Street, this one takes a bit of finding — both entrances sit round on the Old Ropery side — but inside it opens out far more than you'd expect, with booths, wood panelling and cosy nooks that give you somewhere to tuck a pram out of the way. The carved woodwork around the fireplace came off an ocean liner, and the walls are covered in old Liverpool photographs and maritime bits, which buys you a few minutes of distraction. Staff stay friendly even through the Friday evening rush. Food is simple and weekdays only: the steak pie is a proper pie with excellent gravy, and prices are gentle. Out back there's a courtyard with picnic benches and festoon lighting. High chairs, a kids' menu and buggy access are all here.
