Tucked off the high street on Church Street, this is the sort of cosy, ramshackle spot where nothing matches, books are for sale, and the whole room feels warm rather than precious. It's small and busy with a constant flow of people, so it's worth timing a pram-and-toddler visit outside the lunch rush — though buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted, and there are a couple of tables outside. The staff are friendly and quietly efficient, tea comes in real bone china, and the tray-bake cakes are chunky enough to split between three. Dish of the day is genuinely good value — a Moroccan meatball terrine came in at £6.50 — and vegans and vegetarians are properly looked after. One family called the hot chocolate "to die for".
